Police efforts to root out illegal firearms in the precinct of Nyanga resulted in the confiscation of three illegal firearms and arrest of four suspects in Crossroads, Nyanga.

Two firearms were recovered last night in Khabo Street in Crossroads. Members followed up on information of firearms stored at the address. When police arrived at the address they recovered a 9MM Norrinco with eight live round and a Special Revolver with three live rounds. A 38-year-old suspect was arrested.

The third firearm was recovered this morning at about 01:00 in Mazibula Street in Crossroads. The members were in search of a suspect wanted in an armed robbery case and  when they arrived at the address they searched the house and recovered the firearm with five live rounds. Three teenagers who were inside the house were arrested.

All four suspects aged between 16 and 38 are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 10 May 2021 for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

Meanwhile eleven suspects aged between 16 and 29 are also expected to appear in the same court on Monday facing charges of house robbery, business robbery, attempted  murder and carjacking. The suspects were arrested during a tracing operation conducted from this morning in Browns Farm.
