2021/05/11      |  Written By:  Mr M Ngxukumeshe   |   Province:  Western Cape

A police member from TRT Sgt Ashley Tabisher who was once a member of the Anti–Gang Unit has appeared briefly in Bishop Lavis Magistrates' Court on Monday 10 May 2021.

Tabisher who had appeared alongside with the alleged underworld boss Nafiz Modack were both facing corruption charges.  Tabisher is alleged to have taken a R10 000 bribe in exchange for leaking operational information to Modack with a cellphone.

Both accused were expected to advance a formal bail application, but the lawyers from both the state and the defence agreed to have the matter moved to the Blue Downs Regional Court.

Modack is also facing a separate charge of conspiracy to commit murder after a hand grenade was thrown at the Bishop Lavis home of the late former Anti-Gang Unit top investigator.  His two co-accused in this case is Ammal  Janties  and  Janick Adonis.

Kinnear was shot and killed in September in front of his home in last year, but to date only one person has been arrested.

The case has been postponed to 14 May 2021 in Blue Downs Regional Court. Modack and Tabisher will remain behind bars until their next appearance.
