Three suspects are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrates' Court this week following their arrest on Sunday, 16 May 2021. The trio aged 36, 39 and 41 were arrested for allegedly assaulting and fatally wounding a 32-year-old man accusing him of theft. Police found the deceased lying inside his shack with visible injuries and swollen face.

Further investigation led to the arrest of three suspects in Browns Farm. It came to light that the deceased and another victim were assaulted by the suspects accusing them of theft. The victim was taken to a medical facility.

The suspects would when charged appear in court on murder and attempted murder charges. More arrests are also imminent.

Two other suspects aged 21 and 22 were due in Athlone Magistrate Court today after they were arrested in possession of vehicles that were hijacked in Crossroads, last week and last month in Philippi East . Another 21-year-old suspect was also due in Philippi Magistrates' Court today following his arrest in possession of a firearm magazine and ammunition hidden under his bed in Browns Farm area. The suspect was arrested during a search conducted at his home.

Meanwhile a total of about ninety-two suspects were arrested in the past week in the Nyanga policing precinct. 22 were arrested for the possession of drugs, 12 for the possession of dangerous weapons, 10 for assaults, 5 for rape, dealing in liquor and various other charges.

More than 800 litres of liquor, an assortment of drugs, dangerous weapons, ammunition, imitation firearm and different other items were recovered.

The station management applauded members for their concerted efforts in fighting crime in the precinct.
