An estimated R800 000 drugs were confiscated by the Highway Patrol members and two (2) suspects arrested during the mini operation that was held on Saturday night, 15 May 2021

The incident happened at the East Gate Mall parking bay.  The information was received by the members that the suspects will be exchanging drugs at the parking bay. An operation was organised where Highway Patrol, National Crime Intelligence, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department and Night Guard Security responded.

At a time, two (2) suspicious vehicles were spotted coming closer to each other and parked. Members swiftly approached them and found that the two drivers were offloading drugs from the Iveco to the Ford Fiesta.  Both suspects were arrested on the scene.  It was established that the crystal meth (drugs) that was recovered is estimated at the an amount of R800 000

Investigations are continuing to also establish where the drugs were coming from and where they were transported to.  More arrests are still to be done following the suspects who are linked to the case.

Community members are encouraged that they should make it their responsibility to report drug dealing because it affects everyone.  Drug users often loses control and are considered a threat and poses danger to the community. Most of the crimes committed i.e., domestic violence, house robberies, hijacking, theft, assault GBH, theft out of motor vehicle and etc. are due to abuse of drugs. It is said that different people respond differently to the same drug.

The more drugs one take, the more he/she will need to feed the habit. That is why they ending up killing or committing such crimes so that they can be able to survive.  It is a fact that it is not weak people who become drug users, but drug users who become weak.  Therefore those who are abusing drugs should get help quickly so that they can stay away from them so that crime can also be reduced.

Both suspects aged 35 and 63 will be appeared in Edenvale Magistrates' Court facing charges of possession and dealing with drugs.
