SAPS HENDRINA, SAHRC MPUMALANGA OFFICE, DEPT OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT HOSTS A HUMAN RIGHTS WORKSHOP

The Hendrina Corp Communication office & Vispol were part of a Human Rights Workshop as co-hosts. Senzokuhle Advice Centre (NPO) as a key and strategic stakeholder hosted the Human Rights Workshop. The aim of the workshop was to capacitate members of the community about their rights as well as the different stakeholders about human rights how each stakeholder can act/ report incidences of human rights violation.

Vispol Commander Captain JJ Mahlangu addressed the attendees about crime, mostly contact crimes which are a result of alcohol abuse in the township and that each and everyone has a responsibility to prevent crime. He further mentioned that the statistics of the different categories of assault (Common & GBH) are higher on weekends and that speaks to the infringement of people’s rights especially the victims.

On her address, Sgt SN Nkosi touched on the issue of Domestic violence and sensitized the attendees about Domestic violence and Gender Based violence. The SAHRC commended Hendrina SAPS for their partnership with the different stakeholders. In attendance was the HOD of Department of Social Development, Social Workers from the Hendrina office, SGB Members from four local schools.
