Manenberg police members were not resting on their laurels, as they continue to bite harder on criminality after they confiscated firearms and ammunition on Sunday 16 May 2021 in the early of the morning.

The members were conducting routine patrols in Manenberg area, when they spotted the car of a known gang member which they stopped and searched him.

They found him in possession of a CZ 9mm pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition.

The 25-year old male was arrested on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate Court soon on the mentioned charges.

In another separate incident Western Cape Public Order Unit arrested a 21 year old suspect on charges of possession of a hijacked motor-vehicle and the possession of an imitation firearm between the shacks at Old Klipfontein Mission in Nyanga.

It has been reported that the area was largely dark and it was flooded by the recent rains which made it difficult for members to drive in and they had to pursue and look for the suspect on foot.

Eventually the members apprehended a suspect in possession of an imitation which was thought to have been used during the hijacking.  The VW Polo which the suspect has been travelling with was confiscated.

The suspect was expected to appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court.
