SUSPECTS NABBED ON BUSINESS ROBBERY AND OTHER SERIOUS OFFENCES: NYANGA CLUSTER

Four suspects are expected to appear in court next week after being busted following a business robbery that was perpetrated at one of the retail shops yesterday in Gugulethu Mall.

The shop manager alleges six suspects entered the retail shop, one armed suspect threatened a cashier demanding money and he took an undisclosed amount of cash. The other five suspects grabbed clothing items and a cell phone belonging to one of the shop assistants. They staffed the loot in a plastic bag and fled on foot.

Just after the incident was reported police followed up on information and arrested three suspects in Browns Farm. Clothing items stolen were recovered from a Barber shop owner who had bought the clothes in Browns Farm. The owner of the barber shop a Zimbwean National was arrested for the possession of stolen property.

All four suspects aged between 18 and 21 are due to appear in Athlone Magistrates' Court next week. The trio on business robbery charges and the barber shop owner for the possession of stolen property.

Meanwhile a 26-year-old suspect is due in Athlone Magistrates' Court today after he was arrested in possession of a prohibited firearm yesterday in Samora Machel. The firearm with no serial number fell off from a suspect who was wrestling with a victim he was trying to rob.

Another firearm and a cell phone were also recovered in Crossroads, Nyanga by a victim of attempted murder and armed robbery. The complainant was waiting for his passengers who are employees at a centre in Sonwabile Drive in Crossroads. He was approached by three suspects, one armed with a firearm.

They opened the driver’s door and grabbed his cell phone. The complainant tried to fight to get his cell phone but during the scuffle he heard a gunshot and managed to get hold of his firearm and fired shots at the three suspects who ran into different directions.  One suspect was injured and collapsed. A 9mm with no serial number, three live rounds and a cell phone were found next to the injured suspect.

Six wanted suspects are appearing in Philippi and Athlone Magistrates' Courts on charges ranging from robbery aggravated, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, house robbery, housebreaking and theft and malicious damage to property. the suspects  were arrested yesterday and early today.
