DEDICATED POLICE MEMBERS ARRESTED SUSPECTS IN POSSESSION OF STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE AND PROHIBITED FIREARM AND AMUNITION: WESTERN CAPE

WESTERN CAPE:  Committed to be visible in the area, assisting the community in every possible way, police members were busy with crime combatting operations on Thursday 1 July 2021 in Gugulethu.

At about 18:20 they were alerted to a hijacking incident that occurred in a neighbouring policing precinct. Whilst busy with patrols in NY 108 in Gugulethu, they noticed a vehicle with four occupants  which fitted the description of the information received. The details of the vehicle confirmed that it was reported hijacked in the Athlone policing precinct.

The swift response of the police members resulted in the vehicle being brought to a halt. Upon searching the vehicle and the occupants, a loaded 9mm Norinco Pistol were confiscated.

Four males aged between 19 and 20 was arrested as no one could provide a valid licence to be in possession of such a firearm.

Once charged they will appear in the Athlone Magistrates' Court on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition as well as possession of stolen motor vehicle.
