Determination and eagerness to root out criminality and remove illegal firearms continue to bear fruit in the Nyanga Cluster Policing Precinct.

Three illegal firearms, stolen goods, cash and drugs were recovered and five suspects arrested last night in Gugulethu and Samora Machel areas.

Three suspects aged 28, 32 and 34 were arrested by members attached to the K9 Provincial Unit in Borchedd’s Quarry off ramp. This was after members received information about a business robbery which occurred in Cape Town Central precinct. Members spotted the vehicle on the N2 Freeway off ramp to Borchedds Quarry.

Members tried to pull of the vehicle but the suspects ignored the signals but eventually were cornered and arrested. Police recovered a 9mm pistol with seven live rounds, two magazines one  with 15 live rounds, a black GIRSAN 9mm parabellum with 15 live round  including  49 cartons of cigarettes, four cell phones, sim cards, a hand bag and cash.  

A third firearm was recovered at a residence in Cauliflower Street in Heinz Park. Members of Samora Machel received information of a possible suspect in a hijacking case. They spotted the suspect who started running when he saw police. Police pursued the suspect and found him at the residence. Police searched the house and recovered a firearm with 6 live rounds hidden under a pillow, 20 bankkies of dagga and 20 packets of tik. A 28 and 29 year old suspects were apprehended.

The five suspects aged between 28 and 34 would appear in court for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, possession of stolen property and possession of drugs.
