PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES LIFE SENTENCE HANDED DOWN AGAINST A 32-YEAR-OLD RAPIST: POLOKWANE

POLOKWANE - The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the life sentence meted out by the Mahwelereng Regional Court, yesterday on 12 July 2021 to a 32-year-old accused, Mokolwane Richard Matsemela.

The sentencing comes after the accused was found guilty and convicted for raping his 14-year-old niece on 14 May 2020 in the morning. On this day, the victim was about to leave home to school when her uncle threatened her with a knife and raped her in the toilet. Nobody else was in the house when the rape took place.

The accused then fled and disappeared. The victim went to his other uncle's workplace and reported the incident to him.

The Police were immediately notified about the ordeal and the case was assigned to investigating officer Sergeant Billy Mohale of Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit in Mokopane.

He thoroughly investigated the incident and the suspect was located and arrested.  He was positively linked to the case.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the investigating officer for working tirelessly in the case and ensured that the accused was sent to jail.
