Efforts and focused operations by members deployed to in the Nyanga Cluster continuously results in desired successes.

Six suspects are expected to appear in court this week following their arrests on charges ranging from the possession of an unlicensed and imitation firearms, possession of a stolen vehicle, intimidation and extortion.

A 24-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday morning for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. Members who were on patrol in Duinefontein Road, Manenberg spotted the suspect who started running away as the police approached. Police gave chase and the suspect dropped something on the ground. Police caught the suspect and thereafter picked up an illegal firearm. the suspect could not explain about ownership of the firearm and was arrested and detained in Manenberg.

Seven suspects were arrested yesterday in the Nyanga area.

Three suspects aged 23, 24 and 24 were arrested for the possession of a stolen vehicle on Tuesday night in Koornhoof Street in New Crossroads. Members were conducting crime prevention duties when they spotted a black VW Touran parked on the side of the road. The members approached the vehicle and found three occupants inside the vehicle. .They searched the suspects and the vehicle. Police further tested the vehicle and discovered that it was reported stolen in January in Delft area. all three were arrested and detained.

A 26-year-old was arrested in possession of an imitation firearm in one of the hotspots in Sonwabile Drive in Crossroads. The members were on patrol when they noticed the suspect running away with his hand on his waist. Police gave chase and caught the suspect with an imitation firearm.

Two other suspects aged 34 and 48 were arrested on intimidation and extortion charges.

One suspect aged 34 was arrested after he allegedly went to the complainant’s house and threatened the complainant that she would be the second person to follow someone who had employed her illegally. Another suspect  aged 48 who is a taxi driver was arrested after he and a group of taxi drivers threatened the complainant demanding money. The suspects threatened the complainant to take his vehicle if he does not give them money and that he is not supposed to be driving in the area. the complainant was driving a company vehicle belonging to a security company.

Another suspect appeared in Athlone Magistrates' Court on Monday for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. The suspect was arrested over the weekend IN Govan Mbeki Road in Browns Farm.

All suspects are due to appear in Philippi and Athlone Magistrate Court on the mentioned charges.
