FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION RECOVERED IN NYANGA AND PHILIPPI EAST

Three suspects are due to appear in court this week following their arrest for the possession of a prohibited firearm , imitation firearm, magazine and ammunition as well as attack on police.

Philippi East police busted a suspect who fired shots at the police who were on patrol last night in Thekwane Street in Lower Crossroads last . The 26 year started firing shots from a moving vehicle and police chased the vehicle which came to a standstill after it crashed. The suspect was found in possession of a firearm with six live rounds and it’s serial number filed off.

In Nyanga last night police arrested two suspects for the possession of an imitation firearm, a magazine with four live rounds of  ammunition last night. Members swiftly responded on a crime intelligence information of a firearm that was kept at the residence and searched the house and recovered the mentioned items. Two suspects aged 26 and 28 were arrested.

The three suspects would appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court once charged for the possession of a prohibited firearm, imitation firearm and illegal possession of ammunition and a magazine.
