The Harrismith N3 roadblock team have successfully arrested 10 suspects on the N5 and Intabazwe linked to alleged robbery of diesel.

It is alleged that on 27 July 2021, members at a roadblock received information about a group of armed suspects who allegedly robbed a truck's diesel on the N5 near Kestell.

Parkroad, Selosesha and Phuthaditjhaba Tactical Response Team, Welkom and Bethlehem K9 Units and Anti-Gang unit responded to the outlook for a black Audi sedan that was implicated in the commission of crime.

The identified vehicle was spotted on the N5 and approached. The vehicle with two occupants was found with diesel containers and hose pipe used to drain diesel. The two were questioned and led the police to Intabazwe Informal settlement near the N3 where additional four suspects were arrested.

The team searched the place and found a white Toyota bakkie also implicated in the transportation of diesel. They found three tower batteries, three solar panels, three truck wheels and four full 25 litres diesel containers and a generator. All discovered equipment was confiscated.

Their arrests also led police to other four suspects in the area of Kestell which brought the total number of arrested suspects to 10.

Some of the arrested suspects could possibly be linked to two alleged serious crimes which took place over the weekend in Harrismith.

All ten suspects will be expected to appear before Harrismith Magistrates' Court soon facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and armed robbery.
