POLOKWANE - The active involvement of community members in assisting the police to prevent incidents of Stock theft across the Province and the existing cooperation between the Auctioneers and members of the Stock theft Unit continue to bear fruits as more livestock were recovered and suspects apprehended.

Twenty cattle that were reported stolen at GaMatlala in the Capricorn District were recovered from the auction in Bela-Bela yesterday on Monday 02 August 2021 and the suspect arrested.

At Sephokubje village under Sekgosese policing area in Mopani District, a 72-year-old man was reportedly awoken by the sounds of his eighteen (18) cattle  being driven out of the kraal just after midnight on Sunday.

When peeping through the window, the old man reportedly saw one of the suspects driving the cattle on foot while his accomplice was in the vehicle, using the headlamps to show the way. The complainant then notified the locals and the police were called. The two suspects were immediately arrested and all 18 cattle were recovered.

The suspects’ motor vehicle was searched and the police found a rifle, torch and a knife and were all confiscated. The vehicle, VW Polo, was also seized.

The suspects will appear in Sekgosese Magistrates’ Court and Matlala periodical court respectively tomorrow on Wednesday 04 August 2021.
