Persistent visibility and police swift response led to the arrest of seven suspects since Monday for crimes ranging from attempted house robbery and possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition, rape and murder and abduction.

An alleged house robber was arrested last night after he was found in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition in Siyahlala in Browns Farm.

The suspect and two accomplices attempted to rob the complainant of his firearm. The suspects demanded his firearm but the complainant and his son managed to overpower the armed suspect and confiscated the firearm. The two other suspects ran away. A firearm was confiscated with its serial number filed off as well as a magazine and twelve blank 9 mm rounds.

Another suspect 23 was also arrested last night after a woman who was reported missing by her sister.  Police  questioned the ex-boyfriend about the whereabouts of the woman but denied any knowledge of her whereabouts. The police then decided to search the suspect’s house and found the woman under the suspect’s bed unconscious and unresponsive. The woman was rushed to a medical facility and the suspect arrested and detained.

Another suspect, 27 was arrested in possession of bags of dagga while offloading +-50kg of bags of dagga from a vehicle in Amsterdam Road in Browns Farm. The duo attempted to run but one was caught and arrested.

A 20-year-old suspect was also arrested this morning in possession of an imitation firearm. The members were on patrol in one of the hot spots when they pounced on the suspect.

Meanwhile two suspects aged 24 and 33 are due in Wynberg Magistrates' Court today facing charges of rape and murder. The duo were both arrested on Monday.

The 24-year-old was arrested on Monday night after he and another accomplice repeatedly raped the complainant on her way back from her boyfriend’s residence. The 33-year-old was arrested on Monday afternoon for allegedly raping and murdering the 34-year-old woman in Browns Farm. It is alleged the suspect took advantage of the woman after they were drinking together. The woman was found dumped in a water logged field naked, with her throat cut and chest wounds.

Another suspect, 33 appeared in Athlone Magistrates' Court for the possession of a prohibited firearm. The suspect was also busted on Monday night in possession of a firearm with its serial number filed off and nine live rounds in Bristol Road in Browns Farm.

Members as well as community members were applauded for their efforts in ensuring these criminals were brought to book.
