Six suspects are due in different Magistrates' Courts today following their arrests on Friday on charges ranging from the possession of illegal and prohibited firearms and ammunition, rape, assault AGBH and attempted  murder.

Three suspects aged 27, 28 and 38 are appearing in Athlone Magistrates’ Court today facing charges of attempted murder and possession of illegal and prohibited firearms as well as ammunition. The 27-year-old woman was arrested after she stabbed another woman ten times over an argument in Crossroads.

The other two suspects aged 28 and 38 were also arrested in the same area after they were found in possession of firearms. Members were busy with crime prevention duties when they spotted a suspect who started running away when he saw a police van; police chased him and caught him in possession of a firearm. The second firearm was recovered inside a vehicle which was parked on the road with one occupant. Police searched the vehicle and recovered fourteen(14) live rounds and further recovered a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off and a magazine.

Two other suspects, 34 and 51 are due in Philippi Magistrates’ Court facing charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm while a 25-year-old suspect is due in Wynberg Magistrates’ Court facing rape charges. The suspect has allegedly raped the complainant while they were under the influence of liquor in Browns Farm.

Meanwhile operations conducted over the weekend led to the arrests of four suspects. The suspects were arrested on charges relating to murder and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Two suspects aged 18 and 22 were apprehended for the murder of a 22-year-old victim. The suspects allegedly robbed the deceased of his cell phone and fatally stabbed him while walking with friends on Saturday night in Browns Farm. They then fled the scene. Further investigation led to the arrest of the two suspects.

Another suspect, 30 was arrested on Sunday while driving a stolen vehicle in Barry Street in Browns Farm. Police spotted the vehicle with three occupants driving at a high speed, they then chased the vehicle and managed to arrest the driver of the vehicle while the other two suspects evade the arrest.

The trio are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court once charged on the mentioned charges.
