MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND SUSPECTS NABBED DURING RELENTLESS POLICE OPERATIONS: POLOKWANE

POLOKWANE: The sustained Police joint operations that are continuously conducted every week across the five Districts of Limpopo Province once again yielded positive results following the arrest of one thousand four hundred twenty five suspects (1425) suspects. The arrests cover a period between 09 and 16 August 2021.

The suspects aged between 18 and 50 were apprehended for various offences ranging from stock theft, murder, theft of non-ferrous metals, theft under false pretence, carjacking, possession and dealing in drugs, possession of stolen properties, bribery, possession of illicit cigarettes and additional 131 suspects were arrested for Contravention of the Regulations under the Disaster Management Act.

During these operations, Police also recovered 9006 sticks of counterfeit cigarettes, 19 dangerous weapons, 715 grams of dagga, 5.3 grams of crack cocaine, 74 grams of nyaope, 37 knives, 6 firearms and 11 robbed or stolen vehicles.

* Two male suspects aged 29 and 31 were arrested for theft of non-ferrous -metals and copper cables during a joint operation conducted by the Groblersdal Detectives and Gunmar security on Tuesday 10 August 2021. The suspects were found in possession of 12 x stripped off (burned) pervert motor units valued at about R150 000.00.

* A tactical intelligence driven joint operation by the Limpopo Highway Patrol team (LHP) and DPCI (HAWKS) led to the arrest of seven suspects aged between 18 and 47 years on Sunday 15 August 2021 who were found busy processing Gold bearing material at Mapuve village under Giyani Policing area. During the arrest, Police confiscated 12.5 bags and 25 litre containers containing Gold bearings materials and equipment comprising of pendukas.

* A 37-year-old male suspect was nabbed on 11 August 2021 17:00 by the Phalaborwa Crime Intelligence and Namakgale Police during an intelligence driven operation at Makhushane New stands in the Mopani District focusing on possession of copper cables theft. The suspect was found with his bakkie  Toyota Legend 50 white in colour loaded with 02 drums of copper cables valued at R75 000.00 and 01 electronic scale valued at R3000.00.

* Three suspects were also nabbed by the Villa Nora SAPS for possession of stolen copper cables at Villa Nora sub-station next to Shongwane 01 along R518 road and farms at the area on 12 August 2021 at around 06:40. The suspects aged between 25 and 31 were found transporting the cables from Mahlakung informal settlement at Lephalale with a white Isuzu bakkie. The copper is valued at an estimated amount of R55200.00. Eskom personnel identified the cables as theirs.

* A 43-year-old male suspect was arrested by the Burgersfort Detectives facing two counts of murder of his girlfriend and three year old daughter on Monday 16 August 2021. The suspect visited the deceased at Appiesdoring in Burgersfort policing precinct and stabbed them with a sharp object several times and later fled the scene. The suspect was subsequently arrested while travelling with a public transport on his way to Witbank in Mpumalanga with the goal to evade arrest.

* On 15 August 2021 at about 18:00, a 32 year old foreign National was apprehended by the Mahwelereng Flying Squad, LHP and Mokopane Afri Forum in the Waterberg District for possession of illicit cigarettes at his rental residence at Rabe street in Mokopane town. Four (4) boxes each containing fifty (50) cartoons of Chelsea cigarettes, thirty two (32) black refuse bags each containing fifty (50) cartoons of Chelsea cigarettes and cash amounting to R6520.00 were  confiscated during his arrest.

* The Lephalale Crime Intelligence, K9, Limpopo Security Intelligence, Lephalale stock theft unit and Senyakanyaka Security company have arrested three male suspects aged 26 and 47 for being involved in stock theft at Tomburke policing area on 26 June 2021. The suspects stole 5 x sheep valued at R5000.00 at the Belgium farm resulting to four of them slaughtered and one exchanged for a hunting dog which was later recovered at Abbortspoort in Villanora policing area. 

* On 13 August 2021 at around 9H00 two suspects were arrested by the LHP for bribery and being in possession of dagga with the street value of R2000.00. Police stopped and searched the vehicle with one occupant inside, and discovered drugs concealed inside the vehicle and the suspect was immediately arrested. Another suspect was arrested at Polokwane Police station after he attempted to bribe the Police with R500.00 in cash to release his accomplice.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the unrelenting positive attitude displayed by all operatives in ensuring that criminals do not have a breathing space in this Province.

Some of the suspects have already started appearing in different Magistrates' Court across the province. The operations are continuing.
