POLOKWANE - The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has greatly commended the meticulously coordinated investigations that were conducted by a team of dedicated detectives following the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect, almost a year after Mrs Jackie Grobler aged 80, was brutally murdered in her Old Age home in Polokwane.

The late Mrs Grobler was reportedly alone in her house at the Koraal Old Age Home on the night of Monday 21 September 2020 when the suspect intruded into the premises and allegedly attacked the old lady and killed her.  He thereafter took the cellphone and some cash before fleeing from the scene.

Soon after this brutal killing, a team of investigators led by a Senior Officer was put together to probe this case. The team’s sterling investigative work that was characterized by constant profiling of suspects arrested elsewhere and liaison with counterparts in other Provinces, led to the apprehension of the suspect in Krugersdorp, Gauteng Province, where he was appearing on a separate case of Housebreaking.

“The arrest of the suspect will possibly bring some relief to the most vulnerable members of our society staying at the said Old Age Home, as they were understandably living in constant fear since the brutal murder of their neighbour,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The suspect, who is from the Eastern Cape, is expected to appear in Polokwane Magistrates’ Court soon.
