PARKTOWN - The police's excellent powers of observation led to the arrest of four suspects, aged between 29 and 39, soon after a jewellery shop was robbed at one of the malls in Ekurhuleni on Wednesday 18 August 2021. Suspects were found with jewellery with an estimated value of one hundred thousand rand. Police are searching for about six more armed suspects who escaped with some of the jewellery.

It is reported that approximately ten suspects stormed into a jewellery shop at a Shopping Mall in Ekurhuleni and held employees and patrons at gunpoint before taking expensive jewellery and cellphones. The suspects fired some shots as they were getting out of the mall.

A message was sent to police officers on the ground to be on a lookout for suspects who were driving in three cars, a Ford Figo, silver VW Polo and white Toyota Fortuner. Police officers who were patrolling around Bertrams in Johannesburg noticed men who looked suspicious and accosted them. They were found with two sets of hand gloves, a balaclavas, cellphones and jewellery to the estimated value of one hundred thousand rand. Police arrested three more suspects in the same vicinity.

The jewellery was identified by the owner of the shop as some of the items that were taken during a robbery in Ekurhuleni.

Police from Gauteng Serious and Violent Crimes - Murder and Robbery Unit have launched a manhunt for more suspects who are still on the run and are appealing to anyone who might have information that can assist in apprehending the suspects to call the nearest police station or crime stop on 08600 10111.
