ORKNEY AND KANANA OPERATION VHUTHU HAWE

Vhuthu is of African orgin and means "kindness and  humanity". The aim of the operation was to enhance the quality of life and reduce / prevent criminal activities.

A Crime Prevention Operation was held on Friday, 20 August 2020, from 08:00 to 16:00 as a combined operation between Orkney and Kanana police in the Kenneth Kaunda District, under the Command of Lt Col Rene Stimie, Acting Station Commander of Orkney. 

Various police units and the following Departments participated in the operation: Matlosana Traffic Department, Provincial Traffic Department, Customers Affairs, Consumer Affairs, Independent Communication Authority, the Department of Health and the Liquor Board.

The operation commenced with business owners being inspected to enforce compliance with rules and regulations protecting consumers against poor quality of service. 61 Warnings were issued, numerous property were confiscated and case dockets opened.

Thereafter a Roadblock was held at Vaal Reefs road and several fines were issued for Road Traffic related offences. Moreover,  vehicles were stopped and searched for firearms and possible stolen property.

The North West Air Wing assisted in the operation and with their air support a hi-jacked vehicle was recovered in Kanana.

Furthermore the Mounted Unit visited a preschool in Orkney and 105 lunch parcels were distributed to the youngsters, who had the opportunity to touch and ride the horses.
