NORTHERN CAPE – The Acting Head and Chief Financial Officer of the Health Department are expected to appear before the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court today facing charges of fraud and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

It is alleged that during the year 2020, two senior officials at the Department of Health awarded Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPEs) contracts to two companies without following prescribed procurement procedures. The total cost involved is estimated to be at R43 million.

A thorough probe by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team led to the arrest. The Provincial Head of Northern Cape Major General Kholekile Galawe lauded the members for the great success “The Hawks will continue to perform their investigative functions without fear or favour regardless of the position or status of the person involved” he said.
