NINE SUSPECTS BUSTED DURING AN OPERATION CONDUCTED IN BROWNS FARM: NYANGA

Nine suspects were arrested on various charges early today during a four-hour cordon and search operation conducted from 04:00 to 08:00 in Ramaphosa Informal Settlement which is one of the hotspots of Browns Farm, Philippi.

The suspects were arrested on crimes ranging from the possession of handmade  firearms and firearm parts, possession of ammunition, possession of drugs, dealing in dagga, dealing in liquor as well as possession of stolen goods. Two suspects were wanted suspects on cases of malicious damage to property and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Handmade firearms and firearm parts were confiscated including drugs and liquor.

Meanwhile in  a separate incident bags of dagga were also recovered abandoned yesterday also in the Browns Farm area as well. While deployed in the area members attached to Public Order Policing received information about a house storing dagga. The members went to the house searched it and recovered the dagga with no arrest.

The suspects aged between 23 and 34 are expected to appear in Athlone and Philippi Magistrates’ Courts on the mentioned charges.
