PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES THE ARREST OF ALLEGED SCAMMERS WHO ARE DUE TO APPEAR BEFORE COURT: NELSPRUIT

NELSPRUIT - The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has welcomed the arrest of three male suspects for attempting to scam a woman. The men, aged between 28 and 32 are due to appear before the Amersfoort Magistrates' Court today, 01 September 2021, following their arrest on Monday, 30 August 2021 at Amersfoort.

Reports from police in Amersfoort revealed that the woman was in town when the three men are said to have approached her. Suddenly, one of the men allegedly grabbed her handbag, exchanged her purse with an envelope and took out an undisclosed amount of cash. The woman reportedly started screaming for help and the suspects fled the scene leaving behind the money that was reportedly taken from her.

Amersfoort Clinic personnel reportedly came to her aid and notified the police at Amersfoort who acted swiftly and gave a chase. Rural Safety Officials also came on board and joined hands with the SAPS members where they spotted the identified vehicle with suspects and stopped it. The suspects were then arrested hence their court appearance today. 

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Manamela has further applauded the joint effort displayed by stakeholders as well as their immediate response to the information and successful arrest of the suspects.
