LIMPOPO – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has started serving 15 natural persons and 13 juristic persons with summonses to appear in court in relation to the allegations of tender corruption at Mogalakwena municipality. This is one of the methods of securing the attendance of an accused person in court.

It is alleged that the suspects received gratification from the service providers and that other companies were paid money for service that were never rendered.

The suspects who include the former senior officials from the municipality, company directors and  a wife to one of the former senior municipal officials were initially arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation during a takedown operation on Monday in terms of section 40(1)(b) of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977. However, the matter against the suspects was struck off the roll when they appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 1 September 2021 due to some technicalities.

As the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, we would like to assure the public that despite what happened in court on Wednesday, the charges against the suspects still stand. All the suspects will be expected to appear before the same court on 27 September 2021.
