ACCUSED SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR POSSESSION OF A FIREARM AND AMMUNITION: NORTH WEST

NORTH WEST – Lesole Michael Lebajoa (34) was convicted by the Stilfontein Regional Court on Wednesday for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. 

The accused was arrested during a disruptive operation by the Illegal Mining Task Team on 10 August 2020 in Khuma after he was found in possession of a full automatic sub machine gun and rounds of ammunition. 

He subsequently made his appearance in court where he was denied bail. He remained in custody until his ultimate conviction.  Lebajoa was sentenced to seven (7) years imprisonment and a further three (3) years suspended for a period of five (5) years for possession of a prohibited firearm. 

He was sentenced for further two (2) years imprisonment for possession of ammunition. Both sentences will run concurrently, and the accused will therefore serve an effective seven (7) years imprisonment.
