SIBLINGS SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS BEHIND BARS FOR POSSESSION OF STOLEN RAILWAY LINE: BEKKERSDAL

Jeremane Lesoana 28 and his 21 year brother Jeremane Thabang will both spend 8 years of their life in imprison after they were convicted and sentenced to twelve years suspended for 4 years for possession of suspected stolen rail way line on the 17th of May 2021 at 15:45 pm near cooke 2 mine. The sentenced was passed by the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on the 7th of September 2021.

It is alleged the members, Constable Pontsho Thipe and Constable Sibongiseni Stokwe were  on their routine patrols duties near cooke 3 mine open veld when they spotted five black males who started running to different directions as they notice a marked police vehicle. They approached the suspects who jumped into a hole. The members called for back up and managed to arrest two from the five in possession of the railway line.

They were charged with possession of suspected stolen property. Preliminary investigation conducted by Detective Sergeant Tshepo Mashala suggested that both brothers were illegal in the country and had no fixed address therefore bail was denied until they were sentenced.

The Station Commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela applauded the members for ensuring that the perpetrators where brought to book and justice was served to those vulnerable commuters who are affected by theft of railway infrastructure.

In a separate incident ,Bekkersdal police are seeking assistance from the public in  tracing two or more suspects who shot and killed a 32 year old victim before fleeing with his Isuzu Bakkie registration no JF 30 DD GP

The incident happened last night on the 14th of September 2021 at approximately 19:15 pm in Dlomo Street Ghana section. It is alleged the victim and his younger brother were walking to the vehicle which was parked outside the yard intending to drive off when just after the victim opened the door, two armed males appeared from nowhere and grabbed the key that was already on the ignition. The deceased grabbed the key back and a struggle ensued. He managed to get out of the vehicle while the brother took cover. The suspects fired directly at the deceased killing him instantly. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds on his body and succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

A case of Murder and Hijacking is underway. We are appealing to the community to communicate any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to the police and not try to apprehend the suspects on their own as they are deemed to be armed and dangerous.
