COURIER SERVICE FORMER MANAGER TO PAY BACK THE MONEY OF ABALONE POSSESSION: EASTERN CAPE

EASTERN CAPE – Grant Moore (46) a former manager at JKJ Couriers and Pest Control Specialists was sentenced by the East London Magistrates' Court on Wednesday after his arrest by the East London Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team of the Hawks on 20 September 2021 for charges of theft.

Moore was given 3 years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on condition that he is not convicted of the same offence during the suspension period. Furthermore, Moore was ordered to repay the complainant an amount of R74 777.

During the period between 2010 and 2015 Moore as the manager of JKJ Couriers and Pest Control Specialists was solely responsible for the final receipting and banking of all funds for the company. He also was responsible for the general running of the said business which had monthly contracts with for other services including cleaning or replacing of materials at the premises.

Moore  had various cash payments for goods sold and services rendered and had failed to deposit the cash received into the business accountMoore would either receive the cash personally or from his staff members that rendered the services on behalf of the business but never deposited the money to the bank but instead used it  for self-gain.

In August 2015, on noticing the decline in revenue and other discrepancies, the business owners decided to lodge a complaint with the East London Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team for probing which culminated in the arrest of Moore on 20 September 2021. Moore had prejudiced the business cash to the value of more than R74 000.

Moore made his short appearance at East London Magistrates' Court on Monday 20 September 2021 and was released on warning hence his sentencing on 22 September 2021.
