POLOKWANE: 28 September 2021 A 40-year-old suspect sought for cases of rape and robberies after he allegedly promised his victims cleanig services employment, is one of the 1369 suspects aged between 19 and 51 arrested for various crimes during simultaneous weekly joint operations conducted across the province since 19 September until today, on 28 September 2021.

The suspect was arrested on 22 September 2021 at Lethuli Park under Seshego policing area following an intelligence driven joint operation by the Provincial Tracking Team, Polokwane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses( FCS) Unit and SAPS Westenburg Detectives.

In one of the incidents that occurred on 26 July 2021 at about 08:30 in Westerberg outside Polokwane, the suspect allegedly approached a 28-year-old woman who was walking with her friend in the City and promised them employment as cleaners. They then went to the nearby bushes to talk further but upon arrival, he threatened them with a knife and tied the other woman with shoe laces and raped the victim in front of her. The suspect managed to rob the victims cellphones and money. 

Another victim aged 32 was allegedly raped and robbed of money and cellphones on 01 September 2021 by the same suspect after he reportedly arranged to meet with her telephonically in Nirvana suburbs. The duo then procceded next to Meropa Casino where the victim was raped. The suspect appeared in Polokwane magistrate's court yesterday and his  cases were postponed to 30 September 2021 for bail application. Investigations are underway to link the suspect with more similar cases.

The other suspects were arrested for various Offences including murder, attempted murder, robberies, rape, assault, stock theft, possession and dealing in illicit and drugs, possession of unlawful firearms as well as possession of protected species (Pangolin).

▪ On Thursday 23 September 2021, Members of Limpopo Highway Patrol jointly with Bulgerivier police arrested the driver of a truck and four security officers aged between 38 and 51 for possession of illicit cigarettes worth R6,5 million in the Waterberg District. The Police stopped the suspicious truck on the R510 road and searched it. They then discovered about 65 boxes of illicit cigarettes and while busy questioning the driver, four security officers approached them and claimed they were escorting the truck to Grobblersbrigde. They were also arrested on the spot.

▪ Members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team on 22 September 2021, were busy with their routine intensive patrols along the N1 road when they received information about a robbed sedan vehicle in the Pretoria Central.The 39-year-old suspect was arrested at the Kranskop toll gate and was charged with robbery and possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.

▪ During the operation conducted in the Capricorn District by the Highway Patrol Team focusing on hotspot areas, a 32-year-old suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs after his vehicle was stopped in Seshego on 21 September 2021 at about 23:00.Police conficscated sachets of nyaope, dagga and crystal meth drugs with the estimated street valued of over R3 000.

▪ A 32-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday 20 September 2021,  for possession of unlawful firearm and ammunition at his rented flat in Makhado town following a positive tip-off.Police searched the house and found a rifle with ammunition.

▪ The Flying Squad together with Highway Patrol Team were on high alert when they received information about business burglary that took place at a clothing store in the Polokwane CBD. The suspects alleged to have forcefully opened the door to gain access and stole undisclosed amount of cellphones. The members with assistance of MTRS Security company and AFCU, managed to arrest the two suspects aged 37 and 40 driving along the R33 road. All forty-four stolen cellphones worth R45, 000 were recovered.

▪ Tuinplaas police on Tuesday 21 September 2021 arrested four suspects aged between 30 and 40,  for possession of suspected stolen diesel after they were tipped-off by community members about the suspicious movements of two delivery trucks and a  sedan vehicle on the R516 road in Marble hall.The suspects were arrested at Marapyane village in the Mpumalanga province following a high-speed car chase.Seven containers full of diesel were confiscated.

▪ Two other suspects aged 45 and 46 were arrested for stock theft at Leeuwfontein village in the Marble hall policing area on 22 September 2021.Police discovered two slaughtered cows hidden inside the house, reportedly stolen in this area.

▪️ A 25-year-old suspect was arrested in Lulekani after he was found in possession of a protected species (Pangolin)

The operations were conducted through roadblocks, stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects, raids and intensive patrols.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for their persistence in fighting crime in the Province and also thanked community members for their endless commitment in assisting the police in this fight.

Some of the suspects have already started appearing before various magistrate's courts across the province.

The operations are continuing.
