PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES THE WORK DONE BY MEMBERS IN BRINGING SUSPECT FOUND WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL TO BOOK: NELSPRUIT

Nelspruit: 29 September 2021 - The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has welcomed the work done by members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) from Witbank for bringing to book a 57-year-old suspect who was found with child pornographic material. The man was also charged with possession of unlicensed firearm. He appeared before the Emalahleni Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 28 September 2021 facing the said charges.

According to a police report, the FCS Unit received information from members of the society about a suspect who was storing pornographic material in his place of residence. Members followed up on the information and probed the matter where a sting operation was conducted on Monday, 27 September 2021. Upon arrival at his place, police searched the premises and found some hard drives, laptops as well as tablet gadgets. About 9000 child pornographic materials, including videos were confiscated. Whilst proceeding with their search, the astute members discovered a revolver which the suspect failed to produce a valid license for.

The man was then apprehended and charged accordingly hence his court appearance. During his appearance, the Magistrate granted him bail of R1000 and his case was postponed to 28 October 2021.

Meanwhile the Provincial  Commissioner has applauded members of the public for the part they played in this success and their effort has made a notable mark in paving a way into the realisation of a safe environment for children and women in the society.
