Integrated operations conducted in the Nyanga precinct saw six suspects being arrested in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, imitation firearms, drugs as well as possession of a hijacked vehicle, perjury and possession of stolen property.

A 31-year-old suspect was busted yesterday minutes after he robbed a motorist who had stopped his vehicle to attend to a call. Members attached to the Western Cape K9 unit busted the suspect in possession of the firearm used during the robbery as well as the cell phone he had robbed form the motorist. He was detained and would appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, armed robbery and possession of stolen property.

Meanwhile two suspects aged 67 and 19 were also busted in possession of imitation firearms  during stop and searches conducted in the precinct.

Other suspects were arrested in possession of drugs, and counterfeit DVD’s and CD’s. Meanwhile a 52-year-old was arrested on perjury charges. The suspect had opened a case claiming his vehicle was robbed during an accident in Nyanga. Investigations revealed the suspect was involved in an accident and too intoxicated to remember.

The suspects are expected to appear in Athlone and Philippi Magistrates’ Courts facing the mentioned charges.
