2021/10/06      |  Written By:  Brigadier S Mokgwabone   |   Province:  North West

“Without God’s mercy, we are nothing.”  This is what the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Asaneng said when delivering the purpose of the day address during the Provincial Prayer Day Service. The latter was held on Friday, 1 October 2021, at AME Church in Unit 2, Mmabatho in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District as part of the South African Police Service (SAPS) National Prayer Day for Police Safety under the theme “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.”

The Service was also attended by the District Commissioner of Ngaka Modiri Molema, Major General Mmolawa, Senior Officers and employees in the district, the Provincial Spiritual Crime Prevention Chairperson, Bishop Matebesi and the Provincial Chairperson of Community Policing Board, Mr Ngamlane. Members of the North West SAPS Band were also in attendance to render musical items which kept attendees on their feet.

Major General Asaneng said further during his address that members must be reminded to get closer to God and to appreciate one another and our communities.

Upon conducting the sermon, WO (Reverend) Gule read from Genesis 7 verse 1 & 16 under the theme: “An Invitation to a place of Safety”. The Reverend shared with the employees that God is in the business of inviting people to come to him and that the invitation still stands even today. He said in addition that even if we do not have the ark today which was built by Noah as the place of hope and safety, we have Jesus Christ, the Saviour. Further that Grace made a difference in Noah’s ark. “We are here today because God extended his Grace to us,” Reverend Gule added.  In concluding the sermon, the Chaplain said that there is only one door, one ark and one way which is God’s way through which we can enter the Ark of Safety.

Consequent to the scintillating sermon, Bishop Matebesi, WO (Reverend) Mogamisi and Lt Col (Reverend) Esau conducted intercessory prayers for SAPS Management and Employees, Police Safety and Covid-19.

The service concluded with a vote of thanks address by the District Commissioner, Major General Mmolawa who thanked everybody who attended and church leadership for offering us their place of worship. She reiterated that it is important for members to start building their own arks of safety.
