WESTERN CAPE – A company director, Taelo Itumeleng Polycarp Kgobokoe (45) and juristic person, an entity called Ihlathi Trading 21cc T/A massive Dynamic, appeared in the Beauafort West Magistrates' Court today for allegations of tender fraud and corruption worth R600 000.  

Kgobokoe was arrested in Harrismith, Free State by the George based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team on 30 September 2021.

This comes after the arrest of Beaufort West’s Mayor, Quinton Louw (47), Noel Constable (47), along with Central Karoo District Municipality speaker, Mkhululi Hangana (43), and municipal official Norwood Kotze (48) who handed themselves over to the Hawks’ early morning on 17 September 2021 and made a brief appearance court appearance on the same day.

The accused were all linked to an investigation by the Hawks into allegations of an illegal and irregularly awarded contract back in 2019 relating to the upgrades of roads in the Merweville.

Louw, Constable, Kotze and Hangana were all released on bail of R5000 each with conditions. Their case will be back on the court roll on 26 November 2021 for attorneys of the accused to be present.

The case against Kgobokoe who faces eight charges of corruption and fraud was remanded in custody and he will back in the court on the 14 October 2021 for bail application.
