EIGHT SUSPECTS ARRESTED ON CHARGES RANGING FROM ATTEMTED MURDER TO POSSESSION OF UNLISENCED FIREARMS: WESTERN CAPE

WESTERN CAPE: 7 OCTOBER 2021 - The vigilance of members of the Western Cape Flying Squad led to the arrests of eight suspects between the ages of 18 and 34 on charges relating to attempted murder, theft of motor vehicle and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

This morning (Thursday, 2021-10-07) at about 10:30 the members were busy observing a suspicious Nissan LDV vehicle, which upon closer investigation was found to be stolen on a Harare case. At an inter section in Belhar eight suspects jumped off the LDV and ran in different directions after members stopped behind it. All suspects were apprehended. 

One suspect ran over a busy intersection onto a field and was chased by a member of Maitland Flying Squad.  The suspect fired numerous shots to the member. Member returned fire and wounded him. The injured suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment under police guard. Members seized the firearm from the injured suspect and an imitation firearm was seized from one of the suspects who were arrested earlier.

The suspects are due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 2021-10-11 on the mentioned charges.
