The vigilance of SAPS members in conjunction with law enforcement has led to the arrest of a suspect for a hijacked vehicle. The officers were on vehicle patrols today(Monday 2021-10-18) in Mandela Park, Khayelitsha.At approximately 07:30 they spotted a suspicious vehicle, a Maroon Mazda3 with three occupants. As the susects noticed the police they sped off and police gave chase.

The vehicle was halted at Steve Biko road infront of Khayelitsha District Hospital where all three suspest abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot. They allegedly fired some shots at police, who then returned fire but no one was injured. Police managed to apprehend one of the suspects(18) and detained him for possession of hijacked vehicle which was later established to have been hijacked in Kuilsriver, yesterday ( Sunday 2021-10-17). In a separate incident Harare SAPS carjacking task team were on routine patrols in SST block, Town Two.

At approximately 08:00 they spotted a Maroon Toyota Corolla with three occuppants. As they tried to flag down the suspicious vehicle which had three occupants, they sped off. A vehicle chase ensued and two suspects managed to jump out of the vehicle whilst one was arrested.

The vehicle was established to have been hijacked in Lingelethu West, Ilitha Park on Sunday 2021-10-17. He is 30 years of age and once charged both suspects will appear in Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court.
