CARD FRAUDSTER SENTENCED TO A 7 YEAR JAIL TERM: WESTERN CAPE

WESTERN CAPE- A Congolese Citizen, Alain Mukamba (37) was sentenced today, 22 October 2021 by the  Serious Commercial Crimes Court in Bellville on the following counts; Conspiracy to commit fraud, 3x charges of Fraud & Money laundering.

This comes after his arrest in October 2014 after a search warrant was obtained to search his premises in Parklands.

Upon the search of his premises various cloned credit cards and a point of sales device with various credit card slips were seized and accused was immediately arrested on fraud charges. Further Investigation led to two (2) more arrests of ladies who was used as runners who opened bank accounts of which Mukamba had control of and used to commit fraud.

The two ladies made plea agreement with the state and were found guilty and  later testified against Makumba.

In 2016, Makumba never returned to court and warrant was issued and was circulated.

In 2019 he was arrested in Gauteng for fraud related charges, the Investigating officer was informed who secured the accused transfer to Goodwood Prison. Trial continued and accused was found guilty yesterday 21 October 2021 and he was sentenced accordingly today.

Makumba, will serve 7 years direct imprisonment.
