PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES ARREST OF TRIO FOR TAMPERING WITH ESSENTIAL INFRASTRUCTURE: NELSPRUIT

Nelspruit: 26 October 2021 - The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, has welcomed the arrest of three men aged between 18 and 29, who were arrested on 21 October 2021, for allegedly tempering with essential infrastructure and Contravening the Criminal Amendment Act 18 of 2015.

According to information, police in collaboration with some members of the security forces were informed about a group of suspects that were tampering with a transformer belonging to Eskom. On their arrival at the scene, the security formations noticed three male suspects who attempted to flee from the scene but were swiftly arrested by security personnel who were patrolling around the area. The damage caused by the suspects is estimated to be R65000.

The three suspects, Melokuhle Sphesihle Dlamini, aged 18, Banele Maseko, aged 26 and Mfanfikile Maseko, aged 29 appeared before the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on Monday 25 October 2021 and were all remanded in custody. The trio will appear in court again on 03 November 2021 for bail application.

The Provincial Commissioner further emphasised that these acts, not only do they cripple the economy but also place the lives of these individuals at risk.
