Police operations conducted in the Nyanga Cluster Precinct resulted in five firearms recovered and twelve suspects being brought to book.

Two firearms and five suspects were recovered in Philippi East. The five were cornered by security guards escorting a bread truck in the area of Philippi East. The five suspects were seen approaching the truck but vigilant security were quick to approach and searched the. Two firearms were recovered.

The other two firearms were recovered in Nyanga. One firearm  was recovered and a suspect arrested in Ramaphosa Informal Settlement after it was stolen in the area. Another suspecst was arrested for the theft of a firearm.

A tip-off led to the recovered of the firearm and the arrest of a suspect while the other firearms was recovered early yesterday following an armed robbery of a 33 year old who went to meet a would be client who saw that he was selling a lap top on FACEBOOK Market Place. When the complainant came to Browns Farm he was attacked and robbed by five suspects, his firearm, a lap top and a cell phone were robbed on Thursday. A tip off led to the recovery of the firearm and the lap top. Five suspects were arrested.

The fifth firearm was recovered during crime prevention operations conducted in Manenberg.

All suspects are expected to appear in Athlone and Bishop Lavis Magistrates' Courts for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition as well as possession of stolen property.
