A rape and robbery case against three Dududu men has finally drawn to a close.

On 23 May 2017 a grandmother was asleep with her grandchildren at her home in Kwajoni area in Dududu when three unknown men broke into her house. They threatened her with a bushknife and fled with a meagre amount of cash. But not after they raped her.

Dududu Detectives immediately began tracing the suspects and tasked their vast network of informers.  In no time positive intelligence led the detectives to Umzinto where all three were eventually arrested. The first accused, Zamokuhle Siyabonga Zwane (30) was convicted and sentenced on 4 December 2018 and his brother, Bongumusa Yaka Zwane (25) and accomplice Sphamandla Ncokwane (27) were convicted and sentenced in the Scottburgh Regional Court   on 12 October 2021. All three accused were each sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment for the rape and fifteen years imprisonment for house robbery. The accused remained in police custody throughout their trial.

UGU District Detective Commander, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya expressed appreciation to the detective for promptly investigating the case and ensuring that all three suspects received a deserved sentence.  The investigating office in the case was Detective Sergeant Sandile Mpanza of Dududu Detective Service.
