Hendrina: On the 15th of February 2022, the Sector Commanders of Sector 1 & 2, WO BB Mnguni and WO DI Khumalo collaborated with local stakeholders, The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality Youth Office, Senzokuhle Advice Centre, Kwazamokuhle Youth Movement and the Department of Social Development to launch the school safety week. The aim of the campaign was to address issues relating to domestic violence and gender based violence which have a bearing on the academic performance of learners.

WO Mnguni adviced the learners that they should break the silence on any form of violence and reminded them that help is available which is why the SAPS partners with sister departments and local stakeholders.

After addressing the learners, the Sector Commanders and a Social worker from Senzokuhle Advice Centre, Mr VCV Malala continued with the campaign targeting local farm dwellers. So far, there has been three community engagements and the idea is to continue preaching the gospel of “Breaking the Silence” against any form of abuse. Adding to the discussion, the social worker encouraged the farm dwellers, particularly the men to speak up and seek help.

WO DI Khumalo, addressed the implications of violence in our societies and how differences can be resolved without violence through mediation.
