FREE STATE:14 MARCH 2022 - A 25-year-old Mozambican national was arrested after him and his two partners in crime who are currently on the loose, robbed two hitchhikers near Vaal Bridge in Vierfontein on Saturday, 12 March 2022 at about 23:30 at night.  The two victims hitchhiked in Roadhouse, Orkney with an intention to travel to Viljoenskroon.

The report suggests that the two unsuspecting males agreed with a driver of a motor vehicle that he take them to Viljoenskroon.  To their surprise, a firearm was used to threaten them in order to take their properties. They had no choice but to give out their cash, cell phones and a bag containing clothes.

As the robbery unfolds, the two victims managed to jump off the moving motor vehicle.  Luckily, there was a police vehicle driving behind them.  They informed the members that they have been robbed.  Members of Vierfontein gave a hot pursuit and arrested a driver.  The two other suspects managed to evade the arrest.  Properties of the victims were recovered in the motor vehicle of the suspects.

A case docket of robbery with a firearm was opened for further investigation. A 25 year old suspect who resides in Kanana near Orkney, was charged.  He will appear at Viljoenskroon Magistrate’s Court Monday, 14 March 2022.

The office of the Acting District Commissioner of Fezile Dabi would like to raise awareness to the community members to refrain from hitchhiking.  As we approach Easter Weekend, more people will be lining the hiking spots to various destinations far, near in and across Fezile Dabi District.
