SWIFT RESPONSE BY MEMBERS RESULTS IN ARREST OF FIVE ROBBERY SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF FOUR FIREARMS: NELSPRUIT

Nelspruit: 03 May 2022 - The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has applauded members from Kriel for acting swiftly following a robbery incident that was reported thereby arresting five suspects and recovered four firearms. This was on Friday afternoon, 29 April 2022.

A report indicates that a group of about five armed men who were driving in a Chevrolet bakkie stormed into a shop in Kriel after 14h00 where they held the owners at gunpoint. It is further alleged that the suspects demanded cash, cell phones, cigarettes, and beverages from their victims. The alleged robbers then helped themselves with items, including TV sets, microwave, kettle as well as a safe before they fled the scene. 

The police at Kriel were called and notified by the owner about the robbery incident. Members swiftly acted and spotted the said vehicle where the suspects were cornered and arrested. During their arrest, police discovered four firearms with ammunition as well as the items suspected to have been stolen during the business robbery. The firearms will be taken for ballistic tests to determine whether they were not used in crimes committed elsewhere. The suspects maybe linked to other crimes and as the investigation continues, more charges could be added against them, including the said business robbery.

The five suspects are expected to appear in the Kriel Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 03 May 2022 facing the said charges.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has expressed her contentment with the exceptional work done by the members. “It is very encouraging to work with members of such calibre who are totally devoted to the concept of community centric thus dedicating all their efforts for the safety of the entire citizens” said the General.
