Nelspruit: 10 May 2022 – The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has praised members of the police from
Daggakraal after arresting five suspects on various charges, including possession of unlicensed firearm as well as for possession of suspected stolen properties. The five male suspects appeared in court where they were all remanded in custody.

According to the report, the area of Daggakraal experienced some challenges with regard to property related crimes where suspects broke into people's homes and stole some items. At times, the suspects would go as far as stealing copper cables.

Police management in the area rose above the situation and assembled resources in order to address the challenge at hand hence a sting operation was planned and carried out between 06 and 07 May 2022. The operation saw five men arrested, one at Amersfoort whilst the rest were arrested at Daggakraal for charges related to possession of suspected stolen household items, including beds and pots. During their arrest, some of the items, including copper cables were found in the places where the suspects reside.

Amongst the arrested suspects, two are brothers who are also linked to house breaking cases in the area. The relentless efforts of the members paid off at last as some of the items were recovered at a certain farm and the goods were allegedly sold to unsuspecting individuals by the suspects.

These developments prompted the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela to discourage members of the public from purchasing stolen goods. “If we are indeed determined to win the war against crime, we need to close the market for criminals by making sure that we do not buy stolen properties” said the General.
