FREE STATE – The accused Malefu Consolation Makitikiti (49) and his company Tsoari Construction CC  appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court  on Wednesday, 25 May  2022 where they were convicted and sentenced for contravention of the Tax Administration Act.

A preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Services (SARS) uncovered Makitikiti and his company’s fraudulent activities that costed the South Africa Revenue Services (SARS) in excess of more than R600 000  between the period of 2011 and 2018.

The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Bloemfontein. Makitikiti was served with summons on 29 September 2020. He appeared in court on several occasion culminating in his recent conviction.

The court sentenced Makitikiti to five (5) years imprisonment wholly suspended for five (5) years on condition that he repay SARS the amount of R552 0000 on a yearly instalment of R110 000 until the whole amount is fully paid. The company was sentenced to a fine of R2 million wholly suspended for five (5) years.
