Potchefstroom: 27 May 2022 - The Mmabatho Regional Court has on Tuesday, 24 May 2022, sentenced Abram Nnana Matladi (37) to 30 years imprisonment for rape and 25 years imprisonment for murder.

The accused sentencing stems from an incident wherein he raped and subsequently murdered the then 25-year-old Boitshoko Kgomotso Domingo in the early hours of Sunday morning, 20 July 2014. It is alleged that on the said day, the accused was seen walking from a tavern in the company of deceased Domingo in Signal Hill Village, Mahikeng.  That was the last time Boitshoko was seen alive.  Furthermore, at about 00:50 whist the police were doing their patrol duties, they received a call regarding a half-naked body of a woman lying on the street.

Subsequently, a case of rape and murder was registered.  Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was raped before being murdered. As a result, Matladi was traced and arrested, he was charged with rape and murder and eventually linked to the crime via circumstantial evidence as well as DNA tests and found guilty as charged.

The court ordered that all sentences imposed will run concurrently. Furthermore, the accused was declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Lesego Bendley of Mahikeng Crime Investigation Services for a sterling job and securing this sentence.  He reiterated that the police will work tirelessly to ensure that perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide are brought to book.
