POLICE CONTINUE TO BATTLE ALL FORMS OF DRUGS, TWO MEN ARRESTED WITH DAGGA TO THE ESTIMATED STREET VALUE OF MORE THAN R400 000: NELSPRUIT

Nelspruit: 27 May 2022- The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has praised members of the SAPS for working tirelessly thereby squeezing a space for drug peddlers in the society. The General's appreciation comes after the arrest of two suspects who were in a mission to smuggle dagga to the Western Cape Province. The male suspects were apprehended on Thursday, 26 May 2022 and charged for possession of dagga in Machadodorp.

The report by police indicates that in the early hours of the said day at around 03h50 am, men and women in Blue from Machadodorp Vispol were patrolling on R541 Road (Badplaas Road) when they spotted a suspicious white Toyota double cab bakkie which was heading towards the direction of Entokozweni CBD in a high speed.

The vigilant members followed the vehicle which turned to residential area in the CBD after noticing that they were being followed by the police. Two occupants in the said vehicle, quickly went out of the car and locked its doors before they abandoned it alongside the street and ran on foot into the bushes. The members managed to notice some strange bags in the back of the said vehicle. Other members of the police joined in the pursuit of the two individuals.

The two men were later located by the members in the nearby bushes. They were in possession of the car keys and it was later discovered that the bakkie was loaded with dagga, weighing at 404.68 kg's with the estimated street value of about R40040. 00. The police investigation also revealed that the suspects were enroute to Mitchellsplain in Cape Town before they were intercepted.

The two suspects who are Tanzanian Nationals were charged accordingly and during their court appearance yesterday, they pleaded guilty and were given a fine of R5000-00 each.
