SIX SUSPECTS LINKED TO A FAILED CASH-IN-TRANSIT HEIST TO APPEAR IN COURT: EASTERN CAPE

EASTERN CAPE: Six suspects aged between 34 and 54 will appear in Tsolo Magistrates' Court on 7 June 2022 for allegations of attempted cash-in-transit robbery, numerous counts of attempted murder and malicious injury to property.

It is alleged that  in 2019, four (4) guards from Fidelity Cash Solutions were attacked by a group of suspects who trapped the armored vehicle by a chain with spikes on the road which damaged the tyres.  It is further alleged that the suspects fired at both the armored and escort vehicles near Langeni Forest in Tsolo.

Fidelity security guards returned fire and the suspects fled, no money was taken and no injuries were reported during the cross fire, however the shootings resulted in serious damages on the Fidelity Guard vehicles due to multiple bullet holes.

Four of the suspects who are already in custody for numerous cases of police killings, car-jackings, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, other cash-in-transit heists were allegedly linked to the incident and more charges were added on them on  5 June 2022.

Further investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspects on Monday, 6 June 2022, arrested in Mqanduli and another from Mbashe Municipal area.

The duo will be joining their four (4) alleged accomplices when they appear at Tsolo Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 07 June 2022 for the same case.

The Provincial Head Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya commended the joint effort of East London based Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) team of the Hawks, Mthatha National Intervention Unit (NIU) and Public Order Policing(POP) in executing a successful operation.
