FLYING SQUAD MEMBERS ARREST TWO SUSPECTS FOR POSSESSION OF FIREARM, AMMUNITION AND HIJACKED VEHICLE: WESTERN CAPE

WESTERN CAPE: 6 JUNE 2022 - In the early hours of this morning, members of Maitland Flying Squad did a stop and search operation in Mfuleni area, when they pulled over a vehicle with false number plates. The members searched the vehicle and found a 9mm Glock pistol under the seat. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the firearm was stolen in Somerset West, earlier in this year. The vehicle was also hijacked in Lwandle, last month.  

Two suspects, both aged 34 were arrested and detained at Mfuleni SAPS on charges of possession of hijacked vehicle and  possession of stolen firearm and ammunition. They are due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates court on Wednesday, 2022-05-08 on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter, Sunday afternoon (2022-06-05),  members of Maitland Flying Squad followed up information in Athlone area,  where it was alleged that people are selling digital TV decoders. According to information the sub-contractors did not install all these devices, which are funded by Government as a community project, but instead sold it to the general public. The members seized 954 digital TV decoders, TV antennas and satellite dishes.  The estimated value of all the seized items is R 2 million.

Four suspects  aged 27, 34, 40 and 46 were arrested on a case of fraud and will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 2022-06-07.
