POLICE OFFICER TO REAPPEAR IN COURT FOR CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT CRIME: POTCHEFSTROOM

POTCHEFSTROOM: 8 July 2022 - The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, reaffirmed that dishonest members will not be tolerated within the ranks of the South African Police Service (SAPS). This after Sergeant Suping Frekki Motlhabane (39), working at Coligny police station was arrested and made first court appearance on Wednesday, 29 June 2022. 

According to information, the member was arrested on Tuesday, 28 June 2022, in Coligny for allegedly orchestrating a business robbery in which three males robbed a business owner of an undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes, cellular phones and a Hyundai H1 mini truck, at gunpoint. The victim's car was later found abandoned in Ventersdorp. Ensuing investigations led to the arrest of two suspects who were found in possession of the items which were positively linked to the robbery. 

Further probe into the matter implicated one more suspect and Motlhabane who was apprehended at his work address.  

Motlhabane made his second appearance in the Coligny Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 4 July 2022. He was remanded in custody until Monday, 11 July 2022, for a formal bail application. 

Lieutenant General Kwena applauded the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU) members for the arrest and pointed out that employees who commit crime and in the process tarnish the image of the Service, will not be spared.
