SUSPECT ARRESTED WITH DAGGA APPEARS IN COURT: NELSPRUIT

Nelspruit: 14 July 2022 - The relentless effort by the police in fighting the trafficking of all forms of drugs, including dagga has yielded positive results as a 39-year-old man was arrested on the N4 Road near Nkomazi Toll Gate Plaza in Kaapmuiden. The suspect was arrested by members of the K9 Unit from Komatipoort on Tuesday 12 July 2022 in the morning around 09h00 am.

According to the information, the members were conducting normal duties of patrolling in the area. They then pulled over a kombi travelling to the direction of Gauteng with occupants inside. They searched the commuters thereby discovering the man in possession of five bags starched with dagga weighing about 8.385 kilograms to the estimated street value of more than R 12500-00. 

The suspect was then arrested and charged with dealing in dagga hence his court appearance at the Barberton Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 13 July 2022 facing the said that charges. The man identified as Sisu Vatawa was remanded in custody meanwhile the case was postponed for further investigation to today, Thursday 14 July 2022 and he will appear at Low's Creek Periodical Court.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has challenged the public to also come on board with information about where these dagga and drugs are sold so that police can act. "Once we become aware of places or persons trafficking or peddling drugs in their different categories, we will not hesitate to dismantle such markets thereby bringing perpetrators to book. That is our duty to create a safe environment for the community, free from drugs" assured the General.
