Nelspruit: 15 July 2022- The exceptional work done by members of the police at Chrissiesmeer has been commended by the management of the police in Mpumalanga. The appreciation comes after the men and women in Blue arrested three male suspects on Tuesday, 12 July 2022. The trio was charged for possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of suspected stolen properties. They appeared at the Ermelo Magistrate's Court yesterday, 14 July 2022.
According to the information, on the day in question at about 21h00 members were on a clean-up operation, patrolling on the N17 Road between Chrissiesmeer and Warburton area. They then ordered a silver Chevrolet sedan to stop. The car, which had Gauteng registration number plates was searched whereby ammunition for a 9 mm pistol, 10 mobile phones, 33 cartons of cigarettes as well as 3 toy guns were found.
Three suspects were then arrested and police cannot rule out the possibility of linking them to other crimes committed elsewhere, including robbery as the investigation progresses. The vehicle was also seized by the police as part of the investigation.
During their appearance at the Ermelo Magistrates' Court, the case was postponed until 18 July 2022 where the suspects are expected to appear at the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate's Court. Meanwhile the suspects were remanded in custody.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has reiterated the commitment by the SAPS to root out crime whenever it raises its ugly head thereby stamping the authority of the state. "As long as the police are still present, we will leave no stone unturned. We will continue to push forward without retreat until we bring down the level of crime to its knees" vowed the General.
